The proposal for a research laboratory building within the Rizzi University campus in Udine (Italy) stems from the belief that architecture should be generous, offering part of itself to the community. This concept leads to a project that aims to provide a large surface dedicated to public space: an architecture designed to be crossed, inhabited, explored, and lived in.

The connection with the rest of the campus becomes an opportunity to enhance the campus: the crossing of the Ledra Canal is achieved through a grand staircase and an inclined floor which, due to its ample dimensions, transforms into a true public square. Upon reaching the building, it merges with the loggia on the ground floor, creating a single continuous public space.

The ground floor consists of fully glazed circular architectural elements that serve as study rooms, informal meeting spaces, and entrances to the building. It was essential to expand the user base of the building beyond those strictly involved in research, with the aim of creating a "sponge-building" capable of fostering unexpected interactions and generating collective interest.

The architectural vision of the building aims to shape a shared idea of a transparent and open university, fostering attachment to the place and institution. Thus, a rooftop basketball court and a garden with a view over the campus will always be accessible to everyone, including residents of the neighborhood.
